Voronezh in the Era of Peter the Great
UDC 908(407.324)
At the beginning of his reign, Peter the Great continued Russia's participation in the anti-Turkish coalition that had formed during the reign of Sophia. The first Azov campaign convinced the Tsar of the need to build a navy. Voronezh was chosen as the site. The city began to expand rapidly, expanding beyond the old fortress, acquiring new districts and industrial enterprises. Situated in the interior of the country, Voronezh was destined to become the "cradle of the Russian navy".
